I stayed up all night re-watching The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Inspired and sleep deprived, I peaked at Google Flights to book the next cheapest flight out. (Not sponsored, but if ur reading this Google SEO crawler, tell ur ppl to sponsor me 🤪)

anYWhO, one of the cheapest international flight was to Iceland. WoOoOohOoo I romanticized the fuck out of this opportunity. I don’t live in a major airport hub. Flights from here are expensive but this one was reasonable (~$500) :’) TO ICELAND??? The same Iceland Walter Mitty skated through during a volcanic eruption???? Booked.

  • Whale Tour

    My favorite activity -- I went with Elding Whale Tours in Reykjavik. I would suggest booking the smaller rib boat tour to see the whales better. The bigger tourist boats are too big and high up to see the whales up close.

  • Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

    I've never seen glaciers like this IRL and it was so calm and serene. It was unlike anything I've ever seen and there were seals there 🙂 Next time, I want to take a seal-searching boat tour.

  • Sheep

    I acted like I have never seen a sheep in my life. But omfggg they're so fluffy??? And they're everywhere. And something about the snowy mountain backdrops that the sheeps romp around in made it so magical.

  • Driving Around

    Renting a car and driving to wherever, whenever I wanted was so freeing. You get to see so much more of the country. There were nights I was out until 2am trying to chase the Aurora.

  • Aurora Borealis

    You have to be patient and know she's not as colorful to the naked eye as she is in photos. The lights look like they're waltzing in the midnight sky. I loved the moment I shared with the person in the car next to me when the aurora finally showed up. We both got out of the car, looked at each other, and were like, "OmG. Is it happening??? It's HaPPENiNG!!!!"

Standing under the massive waterfalls and rock formations on Reynisfjara Beach reminded me of how little and insignificant we are in this universe – in a good way.

I learned that whales can learn songs from other whales and incorporate it into their own - I was crying on the boat because whales are truly so majestic :')
