I watched like five Youtube videos of people dyeing fabrics and printing on shirts using natural dyes like turmeric, teas, wildflowers, leaves, coffee grounds, etc. and felt inspired to try it out myself. Like an absolute madman, I impulsively threw together some loose tea leaves, instant coffee and white shirts that I had sitting around the house. I didn’t even measure how much tea/coffee I put into my hot water nor did I follow the proper dyeing techniques.
Do you ever get into that creative frenzy where you just do things based roughly on some instructions you skimmed over and you don’t care if you’re doing it correctly but you just do it anyways? No? Just me? Cool.
I felt like some kind of witch mixing around her potions while I was swirling my coffee and tea leaves in a pot of hot water. It’s the same feeling you get when you’re seasoning your food and feel like some sort of renowned, Food Network chef. Anyways, I threw in some turmeric last second and in retrospect, I added waaaay too much turmeric (two tablespoons) because my first shirt turned out mustard yellow. I was going for a coffee-brown color but I’m not mad at it. I diluted it by adding more water before dyeing my second shirt and it came out a soft, lemon yellow. After the shirts dried, there was random streaks and splotches of a rose-brown color. Maybe it’s from the rose-tea leaves and coffee I threw in there. Either way, I like how it gave the shirts more dimensional and a soft, tie-dye effect.
The second shirt I dyed was from the same batch of donated clothes I made my McQueen-Wang-Versace Frankenstein dress with. After dyeing it, I took some scissors and cropped it. I like cropping things and leaving the edge unhemmed to give it a distressed, casual look. This shirt would be something I’d wear if I was roaming around a lavender field somewhere in the French countryside. Maybe paired with a silky midi skirt, my trusty Nike sandals and a woven bag. I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with French countrysides and Italian coasts right now, but it’s a mood.
After cropping the shirt, I took the leftover bottom-half fabric and cut it in the back, making it into scarf. I then tied it in the back to make it into a scarf tube top. I’m trying to reuse as much fabric as I can to keep it out of the landfill. ~♫♪ So eco-friendly ♪♫~

The third shirt I dyed was this tank top that I got black dye on because I’m lazy at doing laundry and like to throw darks, whites, brights, etc. all into one load. *audible gasp from responsible adults* Yeah I should’ve learned my lesson by now but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyways, this white tank got black dye on it so it was this gray-ish colored tank now. Once again, I diluted the natural dye by pouring some of it out and adding in some more hot water. I then just threw the tank in there and hoped for the best. It actually turned out to be a nice, dark yellow, brown-ish color. Very Yeezy Season 3 color. ~*So chic*~ I then cropped it and purposely made it have a super jagged hemline. *Chic-ness intensifies* It’s a smiiiiidge more cropped than I would like but I’ll still wear it around the house and maybe in public if I feel like blessing the public with my nips. Who knows.
